Written by Karl DeBoeser, Sola Gratia (By Grace Alone) is a musical that explores themes of redemption and restoration. Through powerful storytelling and captivating melodies, the aim is to entertain and impact audiences of all ages with a sense of empathy and hope.
In a world burdened by addiction, family conflict, and utter despair, Pastor Maritza Lampara counsels those seeking healing and redemption. As she wrestles with her own doubts, she draws wisdom from the works of Martin Luther. To her astonishment, Luther himself appears in spiritual visitations—not only to Maritza but also to others in crisis, challenging them to accept grace, confront their pasts, and embrace forgiveness. The story’s structure shifts between historical moments of the Protestant Reformation and the modern day, revealing how grace transcends time.

Forty-something, mezzo-soprano voice. Assertive but compassionate. Leader in the community. Mild attention-deficit disorder. Somewhat emotional. Helpful nature. Possible same character to play Luther's wife, Katie.
Back from the dead. Confident, bold baritone voice. Wise and highly intelligent. He was 63 when he died, so that’s probably the age he would be in his appearances as an aura. Possible same actor to play David Tannenberg.
Forty-something, baritone voice. Anchor of the marriage relationship, sounding board for Maritza. Thoughtful, brainy professor. Analytical. Interested in mechanical organ instruments.
Thirty years old, lost and mean. Down on life. A liar, thief, addict. On the one hand a victim of his circumstance; on the other, he is unwilling (or unable) to take charge of his life to improve his situation.
Son of Maritza and David. 18-25 years old in the story. Early on he’s impetuous, but he evolves to maturity. Bears best traits of his parents…thoughtful, concerned about others, pragmatic and steady.
Similar to Maritza. A seminal woman, progressive for her time. A take-charge, supportive, and loving mother and wife. A very hard worker.
